Yazoo River bridge nears completion
REDWOOD, Miss. — Work is nearing completion on a new two-lane bridge spanning the Yazoo River at Redwood, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
Key Constructors of Madison, Miss., is the contractor on the $32.7 million project, which is 92 percent complete.
The new bridge will replace the aging, narrow, and height-restricted steel-truss bridge with a new, two-lane conventionally supported bridge with shoulders and no height restrictions.
The old structure will be demolished as a part of the existing contract after the new bridge fully opens to traffic. The new structure will be adjacent to the old one and will require some new roadway structure to tie to the existing U.S. Highway 61.
Work on the project began in September 2006 and is slated for completion this fall.
The most significant work remaining involves demolishing and removing the old bridge, MDOT said.
