$72 million in work slated for U.S. 82 in Miss.
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Miss. — About $72 million in construction is planned for two parts of U.S. Highway 82, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
Tanner Construction Co. of Ellisville, Miss., is performing a $32.4 million grade, drain and bridge project on the Highway 82 bypass in Washington County. Crews began work on the project in March 2008 and are expected to complete the work in September 2010.
The project is the first of four to create a four-lane bypass corridor from Leland, Miss., to the new Mississippi River Bridge crossing the western portion of the Highway 82 Greenville Bypass. The eastern portion has not yet been let to contract.
Meanwhile, a $40 million contract to connect Mississippi and Arkansas with a four-lane bridge crossing on Highway 82 is scheduled to be let in October, MDOT said. The project entails placing the final riding surface on the new bridge, moving traffic from the old bridge to the new bridge and demolishing the old bridge.
The project is slated for completion by July, with the old bridge demolished by 2012.
