U.S. 84 projects near completion

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI — Construction is under way on three segments of U.S. Highway 84 throughout the state, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

W.E. Blain and Sons Inc. of Mount Olive, Miss., is the contractor on all three projects.

An overlay project is nearing completion on 8 miles of on U.S. 84 west of the Bude/Meadville Bypass in Franklin County. Work began March 31 and is slated for completion by Sept. 30. The project is funded through federal stimulus dollars.

Paving work is also nearing completion on U.S. 84 in Jefferson Davis and Lawrence counties. The project stretches from the Lawrence County line to a point east of Prentiss, Miss. The project is about 82 percent complete and scheduled for completion in November, MDOT said.

The third project, the reconstruction of the intersection of U.S. highways 61 and 84 in Natchez, Miss., is also in the home stretch. All traffic signals are expected to be operating this month, and the project is slated for completion by the end of the year.
