Construction is progressing as planned on NOLA City Bark, said Martin Steib, project manager with contractor F.H. Myers Construction Corp. of Harahan, La. Work is scheduled for completion in about two and a half weeks, company officials said.
The 4.6-acre facility will be behind Popp’s Fountain in New Orleans City Park.
NOLA City Bark was started in August 2007 by a group of dog owners who set out to address quality of life issues while rebuilding New Orleans.
The group officially incorporated as a nonprofit in January 2008.
Board members met with F.H. Myers President Fred Myers in September 2008 about constructing the project. Myers offered to donate his company’s construction services to build the park.
The dog park will feature secured entry gates, an enclosed play area, water fountains, shaded areas, a lawn for events, a quarter-mile walking trail and public restrooms.
