MDOT plans projects in north Mississippi
LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Miss. — The Mississippi Department of Transportation is planning several projects in various phases of planning for Lafayette County around the Oxford area between this fall and summer.
MDOT has begun to plan development for an overlay of University Avenue, (State Route 738), from the shopping center west of State Route 7 to east of the State Route 334 intersection.
Officials expect to award a construction contract in January or February, with completion of the project slated for July 1.
Now that an environmental study is complete, MDOT has moved into the design phase to build additional lanes on Highway 7 between State Route 9 and U.S. Highway 278. Once selected, the design consultant will begin the design process and complete some survey items. The process is expected to take about a year.
MDOT is also in the design phase of the Jackson Avenue interchange at Highway 6. Since the project requires a detailed evaluation and analysis, timelines for completion are difficult to determine, MDOT officials said.
