Projects in works for Oxford area
By Staff reports

OXFORD, Miss. — The Mississippi Department of Transportation is working with the city of Oxford to develop several projects in the area. All of the projects are administered by the city and funded largely through MDOT and the Federal Highway Administration.

One project scheduled to be advertised and awarded to construction in the coming months is for bike paths on 13 miles of roads in and around Oxford. Routes would include segments of North and South Lamar, Belk Drive, West Jackson Avenue, Mississippi Highway 314 toward the newly constructed FNC Park and other city streets.

Other projects include an overlay of several city street segments, including Jackson Avenue from near Rebel Drive to just past the Oxford Mall. Work is expected to begin this spring on the project, which is funded by federal stimulus dollars.

Also planned is construction of a BMX racing facility at FNC Park.

MDOT is also working with the city on an environmental study being completed for the proposed Toby Tubby Parkway.
